The emergence of generative artificial intelligence (AI) promises to be a watershed moment in higher education. It offers significant promise for new ways of working through developing innovative technology-supported learning journeys and feedback, while also managing ever more complex workloads. However, it simultaneously poses existential challenges for many existing methods of assessment, raising numerous questions around how to maintain academic integrity and the critical reading and citation of sources.

Such is the potential impact of Generative AI that all those working in Higher Education need to be aware of the possibilities that it opens up, while also recognising the need to ensure it is used responsibly by both staff and students to maintain assessment integrity and inclusivity. To this end, we are running a “Generative AI in education programme” to upskill staff and students in the responsible use of AI.

The programme, which is part of Edufocus, consists of a range of sessions, including self-directed learning via a MOOC, workshops led by staff and external speakers, and practical hands-on workshops, as well as an opportunity to participate in a critical discussion on the use of AI in education.
