This is a simple guide to aid in downloading the panopto software on your home PC/LAPTOP. If you are using a SGUL / KU Laptop, please make sure you are not using remote desktop while completing this download - log into the laptop and start this process straight away.

Ideas for Panopto:

Always chunk your videos into 10-20 mins chunks of learning - this might be steps, concepts, systems, tasks, topics
Narrate your learning content
Encourage the use of discussions in your recordings - creating a social aspect to the learning
Record a new skill
Host a panel / podcast like discussion with experts / colleagues
Plan a quiz in your content
Think about how a student could use Panopto for assessment purposes

N.B. use of the Panopto desktop recorder is the strongly recommended option but if it is not possible to install, you can make recordings directly from the Panopto folder in Canvas in Google Chrome ) using Panopto Capture (Links to an external site.).

Login to Panopto via a Canvas module
Click Create -->Record a new session
Choose and download an installer for your System (Windows or Mac)

4. Locate exe in your downloads and run the installer

5. The installer will self-extract and ask you to Select a Destination Folder to install the recorder, a Storage location where you would like your recordings saved. You can leave the folders as suggested but please ensure that sgul.cloud.panopto.eu is entered in the Panopto Web Server field.

6. Click install to begin installation

7. Once the software has installed, you can launch the application.

For Joint Faculty members only - do not do this if you are IMBE staff.

There is a restriction on your work laptops in downloading software directly on the system. The steps below should allow you to bypass the restriction in downloading panopto. If the below doesn't work and you keep getting the 'PC Admin' box asking for passwords, please contact KU IT Helpdesk. They will assist you from there.

Before you follow the steps above in this document, please make sure to carry out these steps

Open AppsAnywhereLauncher from your windows start button programs list.

Wait for AppsAnywhere to validate in the background. Once the validation process is done, search for Request Tempoary Local Admin Privileges in windows search bar.

Select Request Tempoary Local Admin Privileges and follow screen instructions to the end.

You are now able to follow the steps outlined from the start of this document on how to install panopto on your laptop.
