Overview

New Quizzes is a quiz engine that integrates with Canvas and replaces the classical quizzes functionality currently existing in Canvas. Think of it as a major enhancement over the classical quizzes you currently use.

Timeline

The classical quizzes that we currently use on canvas has an 'end of life' date which was originally planned for 2022 but has been pushed back a year. The reason for this is that Canvas wanted to give more time to users to adjust to the ever more prevalent mode of online teaching.

That being said, New Quizzes has been around for 3+ years and it is at a stage where we're confident in rolling it out on Canvas for you to use and get familiar with.

Below are the important dates that you should be aware of:

Now - June 2023:

New - Start using New Quizzes and attend an intro session
Prefer to continue using classical quizzes - Also attend an intro session to at least get familiar with all the cool new features, which should hopefully convince you to switch :)

June 2023:

Instructors will no longer be able to create Classic Quizzes
Students can take Classic Quizzes through June 2023 IF the quizzes are created before July 2023 in an active course

July 2023:

Classic Quizzes will be removed from the Canvas interface
Instructors will no longer be able to view quizzes or question banks authored and delivered with Classic Quizzes
Students will no longer be able to take a Classic Quiz
However, student data from Classic Quizzes will still be presented in the Gradebook
